Connecting your own domain to your website

Would you rather use your own professional domain, such as yourcompany.com, instead of the free subdomain? With NoraPix that is easy to set up. In this article we walk you through the entire process in detail, from choosing a domain to successfully connecting it.

1. Buy a domain or use an existing one

You have two options: either purchase a brand new domain directly through your dashboard, or connect a domain you already registered elsewhere. Both paths are supported and lead to the same result.

2. Adjusting DNS settings

If you are using an existing domain from another provider, you need to set the so called DNS records at that provider according to the instructions in your dashboard. These records make sure that visitors typing your domain into their browser get automatically routed to your NoraPix website. The exact values you need to enter are shown clearly in your dashboard once you start the connection process. Do not worry if this sounds technical: you only need to copy the displayed values into the right fields at your domain provider.

3. Waiting for and verifying the connection

After setting the DNS records, it can take up to 24 hours, depending on the provider, before the domain is reliably reachable worldwide. This process is called propagation and is outside of our control, since it depends on your domain provider own servers. You can check the current connection status in your dashboard at any time.

Common pitfalls

Make sure to copy the DNS records exactly as shown, even small deviations can prevent the connection from working. If you still notice issues after 24 hours, first double check that you set the records at the correct domain provider, and contact our support if the problem persists.

Your subdomain stays available

Even after connecting your own domain, your free subdomain continues to exist. Connecting your own domain does not take anything away, it simply adds a second, more professional address.
